Fencing in The Beaches

The Beaches are their own municipalities with their own permitting, so a job in Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach or Atlantic Beach does not go through the same counter as one in Arlington. We file with the right city, and the timelines differ — worth knowing before you plan around a date.

Everything out here is built coastal by default. Stainless or hot-dip throughout, aluminium in place of steel, and black vinyl-coated mesh rather than bare galvanised on any chain link. Sand also behaves differently again this close to the ocean, so post depths go up and gate posts go deeper still.

Wind exposure is the last factor and the one people underestimate. A block from the ocean with nothing upwind, a solid six-foot privacy panel takes a load that the same fence four miles inland never sees. On exposed frontages we will often recommend shadowbox — it looks the same from twenty feet and lets a gust through instead of catching it.
