A gate is the only moving part in a fence, it takes every bit of load the fence never does, and it is the thing you judge the whole job by every time you open it. Which is why we build gates on site, to the actual cured opening, instead of dropping in a prefabricated leaf and shimming the gap.

Three hinges as standard, not two. A diagonal brace or a steel frame inside a timber gate so it cannot rack into a parallelogram. Hot-dip or stainless hardware. And on anything over four feet wide, an adjustable turnbuckle so the gate can be pulled back square years later without taking it off the posts.

For automated entries the specification is mostly about the things that happen when something goes wrong: a safety loop or photo-eye so the gate will not close on a car, a manual release you can actually reach, and battery backup so an outage does not leave you parked on the street. Jacksonville loses power in storm season — a gate that only opens on mains power is a gate that will strand you.

What is in the price

Built to the cured opening

Measured after the posts have set, so the reveal is even top to bottom.

Three hinges, hot-dip or stainless

Standard on every gate we hang, regardless of width.

Anti-sag bracing

Diagonal brace or an internal steel frame, plus an adjustable turnbuckle on wide leaves.

Oversized gate posts

6x6 timber or heavy pipe, set deeper than line posts, because the whole load lands here.

Operators with safety devices

Slide or swing operator with a safety loop or photo-eye, obstruction sensing and a reachable manual release.

Battery backup and access

Backup that still cycles the gate through an outage, plus keypad, remote or intercom as you prefer.

How it runs

01

Swing and clearance check

We look at where the gate has to go when it opens, what it has to clear, and whether the driveway slope rules out a swing entirely.

02

Posts and power

Gate posts set deeper and cured. For automation we coordinate the power run and conduit before anything is hung.

03

Build and hang

Gate fabricated on site to the real opening, hung, braced and squared.

04

Programme and hand over

Operator set up, safety devices tested with an obstruction, codes and remotes handed to you, manual release demonstrated.

Questions we get on this one

Slide or swing?

Swing is cheaper and looks better; it needs level ground and space to open into. Slide costs more but handles a sloping driveway, a short approach or a gate that would otherwise swing into the street. We will tell you which your driveway can actually take.

What happens in a power cut?

With battery backup, the gate keeps cycling for a day or more of normal use. Without it you use the manual release, which every operator has — we show you where it is and make you do it once before we leave.

Can you automate my existing gate?

Often, yes. It depends on the gate's weight, whether the frame is square and whether the posts can take an operator's load. We will inspect it and be honest — bolting a motor to a sagging gate just breaks the gate faster.
